Every once in a while the ice comes in pretty good at the Gunks. You need the right conditions. Low amounts of sun, cold weather and something to keep feeding the ice. Knowing my pocketbook was empty a 10 minute drive to the Trapps was looking like the right thing to do for the day. We decided to start at The Flake and Boston in the Uberfall. Wes lead Boston and we top roped The Flake. Both climbs were fun with the sun keeping us warm and comfortable all day. The direct sunlight takes a toll on these climbs turning them into a snowcone toward the middle of the day. Hence the reason for them not staying around very long. The Near Trapps and the Bayards were looking amazing.
