Gunks Rock Climbing – 845-853-5450 – – Guiding the Gunks and Beyond

AMGA Ice Instructors Course North Conway, NH 2011

Chuck Boyd and I took the AMGA Ice Instructors Course 02/07-02/11 in New Hampshire with a great crew of guides and amazing instructors.  The course is 5 days long.  This course is part of the AMGA Alpine Guides curriculum.  It’s packed full of short roping/pitching techniques, ice anchor building, belay transitions, movement, decent options, and yes a boat load of ice climbing in amazing locations.  The majority of the climbing was done at Frankenstein cliff.  We also spent a day up at Mt. Willard.  I love climbing in the Whites.  The mountains in New Hampshire really appeal to me as a visual person.

The weather cooperated with only a few cold days.  No major storms or other issues to speak of that slowed the course down.  Chuck and I pretty much ate out every night with a couple of guides that we met in the course.  What can I say about gingerbread cake and pumpkin ice cream.  I climbed with Patrick Weaver from North Carolina everyday.  Patrick is a great guide and somebody I would be happy to work with any day of the year.
